they ran 6.2 miles! (a 10K!!!)

this is the "before" picture. august 28, 2016. 7 am. we were ALL nervous. even me! I truly still wasn't SURE they could run 6.2 miles. we were all different paces. I didn't know how that was going to play out. we DID go and drive the course the night before...and i'm so glad we did! I think it helped a LOT!

ready or not, here we go! the plan was to run the first mile together (this way I could set their pace...to keep Joshua from starting out to fast, and to keep the girls from starting out too slow ;-)) Then everyone could run their own race. I ran with Joshua (who was the fastest), and then turned around and crossed the finish line with each of them (I ended up running over 8 miles!)
pat and levi cheered us on (and took pictures!)
Lincoln and sawyer ran the whole race together. and, apparently, talked the whole time...to each other AND everyone around them.

miles 3 and 4 were HARD. hilly and sunny.
the race started at 7:30 am. it was HOT. but mostly overcast.

the last 1/4 mile was around a track. that was fun! lots of music and cheering. a fun way to end!

I always encouraged them, in EVERY run we did all summer, to FINISH STRONG. and they ALL did, they all picked it up at the end and finished strong. (I couldn't keep up with Lincoln's sprint at the end!)

crossing the finish line with each of them was amazing. seriously amazing. I was definitely crying. I was SO proud of them. they ran a total of about 104 miles this summer.
I hope they learned a lot...about training, about how strong they are, about working hard. but MOSTLY, that I BELIEVE in them and am SO proud of them!!!
