basement remodel :: part 4 :: new floors and paint

if you missed part 1, part 2 or part 3...

this is going to be a LOT. because I don't want you to have to wait until next week for the REVEAL!

we truly didn't realized all we had to do in this project until we were in the midst of it. once we took the carpet up, we realized those banisters going down the stairs were going to look SO weird. so we took them off...

and painted them. this was 100% bailey. she put 2 coats on them. and did a GREAT job!

{and added a note on the floor... ;-)}

next was PRIMING and PAINTING. oh.my.goodness.

this took FOREVER!!! we had to prime EVERYTHING. it's a LOT of square feet. and  we painted the ceiling. then painted the walls. we did the same color in all the rooms...guest room, main room and bathroom. it brightened everything up a TON!!

AND THEN THE NEW FLOORING!

we used vinyl plank in the WHOLE basement. and we LOVE it! we installed it ourselves. it was a little tricky at first, but once we go the hang of it, it was fine!

Joshua was definitely the biggest helper of all the kids. he GLADLY helped with ANYTHING. it's kind of appropriate, because it's him and his friends that now spend the most time down there :-)

the bathroom was the last little bit. bathrooms are always tricky...

once the floors were in, we had to put baseboards back on the wall. I wanted a wider one than the "builder" one. so we bought 1 x 5's and painted them white. and cut them to fit. (but you have to do it at angles, so it's not as easy as it sounds...which was the theme of this remodel  - ha!) I ended up doing most of this. the painting, angles, cutting...

but he was glad to help, too :-)

once we nailed them to the wall...

there are still like 2 steps to finish them! argh!

we had to tape and them caulk the top edge. so it looked "finished".

and the last part of "construction" was the carpet on the stairs. it was SUCH a debacle getting this carpet. took 3 months. pat almost got in a physical fight. but. we have the carpet. and love it. that's all i'm going to say.
