handing your child their dream

there are going to be a lot of pictures. you've been warned.

bailey has wanted to ride/been obsessed with horses for 2 years. she wants to have LOTS of land when she grows up so she can have barns and horses (and lots of kids!) we thought it might be a phase...but it's stuck so far. so...when it came time to sign the kids up for basketball this winter (which she has played for a couple years) we gave her a choice: basketball for 3 months or 2 days of horse camp?

of COURSE she picked horse camp!

if there is a child that is struggling in our family, that is getting "lost"...it's bailey. so this was THE perfect day for her...and for my heart! we had NOTHING else going on that day. it was a pretty calm weekend., overall. so we were able to talk it up a LOT. "bailey! today is your horse camp! what are you going to wear?"

and i got to take her and STAY and watch. instead of having 3 other things to juggle and not being able to fully engage with it.

her walking out to the horse for the first time...
 waiting to get on.

she learned how to steer (?? i don't know if that's what you call it. i know NOTHING about horses!) the horse. she was so so focused and took it ALL in.

it was SO precious to watch her face!

not only did they get to ride the horses, they also cleaned up (a lot!) of poop and took it to the poop pile, cleaned the tack, groomed the horses and had so much fun!
 hello, beautiful!

our kids can't have everything their heart's desire. nor do i think that's best for them. but it was SUCH a joy to be able to hand my daughter her dream. and to be able to watch her enjoy it!

she gets to go to one more day of camp in december. i have no idea if this will become a long-term thing. one day at a time...

Bailey would get along SO well with my girls!! This was how it all started for Holly too! And Holly LOVES it and it is all that she talks about and now Paige is loving it too. We have to take breaks from horseback riding (it is SO expensive) and all they talk about it how long until we start up again.

I was also horse obsessed as a young girl and still remember my 8th birhtday when a pony walked up our driveway and was mine for the day! I am many birthdays away from my 8th and I am telling you that your daughter will remember this always.

The look on her face and smile is priceless; and even if she can't do it again, until she is a grown up, she will have the memory and thought that my parents gave me a chance to have my dream.
