a week from today our kitchen is getting gutted and remodeled.
it's been a LONG time coming.
from the day we walked through the house, i wanted to paint or cover the BLUE counters.
our oven is the smallest ever made. doesn't fit 2 9 x 13's. i'm not sure how i've fed our family this many years (7 years we've lived here).
the microwave broke a year ago. so we bought one on craigs list for $10 and it's so tiny.
some of the burners work some of the time.
the icemaker leaks ice all over the freezer.
you have to hold one of the drawers from the bottom when you open it or it will fall on the floor.
there are issues.
our house is 15 years old and it's all original to the house. it's time. painful (in lots of ways!) but it's time.
we've been planning the details since march.
we are going to be our own "GC." which should be fun.
it will be a month with no kitchen. ha! we do have a fridge in the basement and a small sink that's like 9" x 9" (no disposal.) we are going to set up a kitchen/dining room down there and hopefully that will be ok.
it will have it's moments for sure. but i hope to keep things in perspective...we are so thankful that we can do this! twice in the last 10 months of planning, i've said, "no. we can't do this. it's too much." but pat is pretty much incredible and says, "it's time. and i want you to have the kitchen you want NOW, while you're in it all the time. not 20 years from now when the kids are all gone!" LOVE him!
so. it's happening. and i'm trying to spin it as an adventure. remind me of that in a couple weeks, ok??
i hope to remember to post a picture every friday afternoon...of the progress!

ohmygosh! I can't wait to see what you've come up with... I've been watching your pins for months now!! so happy for you and that you get to live in the kitchen and not do it when you're listing the house like so many people do. :) Yay!
SUPER SUPER excited for you! I was our GM when we did our kitchen in August so my advice to you is be on top of your people a TON :)! Can't wait to see how it turns out, friend!
Oh...and the eating/cooking wasn't a big issue for us. We grilled (though it was summer:( and used paper plates. Oh..and took advantage of 'kids nights' at restaurants. SO exciting!
Woohoo! So fun!!!
We just gutted and redid our kitchen - mostly ourselves (minus moving a kitchen plumbing line to move our sink and installing hardwoods)! We love it and it was crazy being without a stove or sink for a month. Holler if we can help in any way!
Oh my word! You are a brave woman!! Can't wait to see and hear all about it!!
how exciting! can't wait to see the results.
just a word of encouragement...we intentionally got rid of our disposal two years ago and have not looked back. we started composting (initially just keeping the non-meat and non-dairy food scraps in a tupperware container 'til it was full...now we have a "cuter" container). we were amazed by how much food waste we create, amazed by how little true "trash" we created (combined with recycling of course), and we put our compost in our garden and have yielded AMAZING results! Not trying to add another item to your plate, but a word of encouragement...living without a disposal can be done, and can even have some benefits if you choose to compost!
Friday afternoons just became my favorite time of the week! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!! (soooo curious to see if 'grey' makes an appearance!?)
