easter 2013

i think it will be an easter we won't forget.
we've never done the easter bunny or easter baskets (it's SO hard to keep the true meaning of easter and christmas in focus, i just can't add all that stuff!) but this year we didn't even go to church or get dressed up or even take a family picture!

because we had gone to bed so late the night before after a LONG 2 days...we all slept in til 9 am!

then we did church together in our home. it was so so sweet.
we did do a little easter egg hunt. we used our leftover valentine's day candy in the eggs :-)

a friend dropped by with some sweets for me :-) she watched me NOT eat all the fun desserts we had all week at the beach, and helped me make up for it!
we did do something fun in the afternoon, that i hope might become a tradition, we'll see. we started seeds that will become a little garden for us this summer. rebekah asked for a "garden" for christmas - but you can't really give that in our area in december, so we didn't. but i haven't forgotten her desire to do it! so, we planted some seeds...

they were amazed how small the seeds were!

my desire is for this to be THEIR thing. we planted tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions and basil. we'll see how it goes.

it was a VERY lowkey day. had a nice dinner in front of the basketball game of ham sandwiches, deviled eggs, chicken wings and fruit.

it is SUCH a huge day for my heart...i find myself praying the same prayer over and over all day, "thank you, jesus." it covers it all.

and pat took me to zinga for some frozen yogurt for dessert :-) i think i've pretty much UNDONE any good i did by not eating sugar for 46 days in the last 2 days - yikes! i need to get it back under control...but i KNOW there's a lesson to the JOY of feeling the FREEDOM to eat anything i want! it's so nice!

we do a garden every year and it is completely the girls' responsibility. scott helps just a little occasionally or makes some suggestions sometimes. or uses it as a teaching opportunity about why something isn't growing etc. but it is ALL theirs! (if I stepped foot in it, everything would die! so I stay far away!!) and when it is time, they bring the veggies to me and together we come up with how we are going to use ALL the veggies either by making something or freezing them or giving them away - NONE of it goes to waste! it is SO GOOD for them and teaches so much on so many different levels! i love it. good luck with your garden! :)
