i get on these "kicks" sometimes. usually it's "i'm never eating candy ever ever again!" and the longest it lasted was 46 days (lent 2012).
my latest one was giving up shampoo and conditioner.
i don't have time to research things. but i see bits and pieces on blogs or facebook or...well, that's pretty much the only place i see anything...about how things are bad for us...gluten...sugar...aspartame...
i had read up a little about the "no poo" idea - instead of using shampoo and conditioner, you use baking soda for shampoo...and apple cider vinegar for conditioner.
sounded interesting. and "natural". and cheap. but i had some BIG reservations. i exercise a LOT...and sweat a LOT...i have to wash my hair OFTEN...and i have THICK hair...would it work on me?
well...a good friend that we vacationed with last summer showed up to the beach with gorgeous hair and talking all about how she gave up shampoo and conditioner. she runs everyday. has thick hair. i was sold. she convinced me that i would eliminate the chemicals AND my hair would be softer and more beautiful than ever!
i used shampoo for the LAST time the day after my sister's wedding...to wash all the hair spray out :-) i didn't want to start it before her wedding because i had heard there can be an ugly "adjustment phase" (i.e. greasy, oily hair).
i lasted 6 months. but i couldn't take it anymore. i actually never had a HORRIBLE adjustment phase, but it was just stressful for me! yes, it was probably a little cheaper, but i don't buy expensive shampoo to begin with. some days my hair looked GREAT (but NEVER softer and more beautiful than ever), but some days it just looked ok, and other days i felt like it looked bad. i could never figure out WHY. there was no magic formula. things seemed to change during one week a month ;-)...for the worse...and that just isn't a week that you need to have you hair looking bad on top of everything else! each day, when i would dry my hair for a minute after my shower (i never dry it all the way) i would have knots in my stomach wondering if it was going to be a "good" day or "bad" day. i just don't need that kind of silly stress in my day! i really gave it a good shot, but i was CRAZY giddy when i put those bottles of shampoo and conditioner in my cart last week!!!
have you ever tried it?? any thoughts?? you're not going to convince me...but maybe someone else :-)

you lasted longer than i did. i tried it for two months and couldn't take it any longer. i don't wash my hair everyday (because i am lazy and don't want to mess with drying it everyday). when i used regular shampoo, my hair looks okay on the days that i don't wash it. but with the "no poo" on the days that i didn't wash it, my hair was SO gross. so gross. i kept waiting for it to get better and it never did. and so i gave up. i had read that it would help your hair be less frizzy and i have lots of frizzy hairs and i never felt like my hair was less frizzy. so i have been back to using just regular old cheap shampoo for about 2 months now and i am so much happier about it. i would be curious who it works for in "real life" and not just on pinterest. ;-)
I did years of no poo, but I just washed my hair with conditioner (cheap vo5 stuff because it doesn't have silicones). I wore my hair curly most days and it was good.
But I do find it easier to just wash with shampoo and conditioner twice a week.
gah...no I haven't tried this. Nor will I!
I exercise a lot too and have crazy thick hair and I feel like I have pretty good hair.
I shampoo/cond 2-4 times a week. I'd say on average 3 times -
Just wash/cond it in COLD water, keep those oil IN there (that's something new I've been doing and it does show a huge improvement).
On the off days I:
#1 - just wear it up.
#2 - let the sweat dry in there (gross, I know, some days, like Bikram days, I do rinse it off with cold water, just to get the toxins off my skin mostly) and then use a dry shampoo - it's this stuff you spray in and then brush out - use a good brand!
My hair doesn't feel awesome after this but it does style amazing after this - will do whatever I want it too!
I've given up "sleeping on my stomach"! Help. I've slept on my stomach since elementary age or before.
I now have lasted 5 days of sleeping on my side. But I can't get comfortable. Horrible sleep.
Today, Glenn has promised me that he'll take me to Sears or we'll try to find your local Bed, Bath/Beyond store here or the closet thing - I'm thinking I need a "body pillow".
Any suggestions?
Pretty sure I will NEVER do this. I only wash my hair 2, maybe 3 times per week. I use a salon brand, but figure it evens out, since I don't use it daily. The nights I do wash my hair I put in a lot of gel. Thick gel. My hair just gets too crazy otherwise. And then I use hairspray almost daily. Not a lot, but some. So the days I do wash it, I feel like I need something to get all that product out.
You're the first person I've heard talk about this who wasn't trying to convince others to do it. Just another reason to like you. :)
