"Lent should never be morose...we ought to approach Lent as an opportunity, not a requirement. After all, it is meant to be the church's springtime, a time when, out of the darkness of sin's winter, a repentant, empowered people emerges.
Lent is the season in which we ought to be surprised by joy."
{i LOVE that!!! surprised by joy!!!}
"It is a time to let go of excuses for failings and shortcomings; a time to stop hanging on to whatever shreds of goodness we perceive in ourselves; a time to ask God to show us what we really look like."

That is beautiful and painful all at the same time.
Thank you for sharing! (I think.) ;)
Yikes. "What we really look like..."
a time to have God show us what we really look like....
I have been thinking about this since I read it yesterday and "coincidentally" (not), my Bible study yesterday was on the Passover - where the Israelites were asked to commemorate the time that God literally marked them with blood, so they would be protected, covered, "forgiven" from the judgement that would fall on everyone else. And today (a day of love!), I am overwelmed with the feeling that THAT's how he sees us - covered. By his blood, his love, his forgiveness. Hallelujah.
