it was short...but fun!
a couple little gifts...
and 1 big one!
see how CLOSE they have to stand?? no WONDER they drive each other crazy! :-)
we are efficient around here...a quick haircut in the garage...
and back inside to sing happy birthday!
quite possibly the lamest birthday cake i've ever made. but he didn't seem to mind.
sunday afternoon i took the 4 kids that CAN sit through a movie to see cars 2. we had a gift card. i still can't stand movies. we go like twice a year. and it's normally just pat and i. it was the best option i could come up with to spend some time with some of the kids that i wanted to connect with (i know, not much "connecting" in movies - but they are so rare for us, that the mere fact we were GOING meant the WORLD to them!) and it was 100 degrees outside! the kids liked it. i loved holding sawyer on my lap for 2 hours. it was a nice outing for all of us.
sunday afternoon we got cross bars and a car top carrier installed on our car! we are headed to the beach in a few weeks and needed this to be able to bring some clothes...since our car is FILLED with PEOPLE! :-)
the sand lasted in the sand/water table less than 24 hours. it was a disaster. now it's just a water table. MUCH better! they all love it!

laughing at your dismay over the birthday cake. kids don't care at all. they want some frosting and that's about it. we put so much pressure on ourselves. I LOVE that you got to take them to the movie...and hold sawyer the whole time! sweet time with him i know!! I love the sand...i mean water table. i've never seen one that big - what FUN!! and a great idea!!
Who ever invented the idea of a sand and water table did NOT have kids. I mean, not even a 8 year old would want them separated! We have a table as well that we fill both sides with water. And a sandbox across the yard. Sometimes sand STILL ends up in the water table... Happy Birthday Sawyer:)
(I also can not stand movies!!)
That look on your husband's face in the first picture is just what my hubby looks like sometimes with all the chaos, a mix of zoned and exhausted.... :)
I found out about your blog from a friend that just adopted 2 little girls from the same place as you did...
Enjoy reading your adventures as well as hers...
My heart was very sad for you when you wrote about being so sad about leaving Sawyer while in Rwanda - I have a 3 year as well and it would of been so hard on me as well - my heart went to you so much...
Have you ever shared how to make those neat b day shirts you do? I LOVE them...! Also where did you get those dump trucks that are in the sand? my 3 year would love those...

When Chris's dad was here, he wanted to buy Danielle a water/sand table. We evaluated for about a second before I made the ruling that it really just needed to be one of those plain water tables. I just couldn't imagine the mess of the sand. But I understand you needed a LARGE table with six kids. I am thankful for your sanity that it was converted to all water!
i think the cake is more for us than them! thank you for being real. and, have you tried pebbles in the sand part of the table? or beans? (wet beans, yuck!)
happy birthday, sawyer! wow - that water table looks awesome! :)
