joshua's first basketball game

today was joshua's first basketball game.
it was so cute.
i don't even like sports that much.
why do i get SO choked up when any of my kids plays anything??
he's a man of few words.
it was kind of hard to tell if he was excited or nervous.
except for the fact that he never stopped smiling.
the.entire.game :-)

he's #13
the league is called upwards...it's a christian league...so there was a little devotion at halftime!
one of the families in our bible study have a son on the same team!
makes practices and games even more fun!
he got a couple shots on goal...but no baskets...

good game!
{NOT a huge fan of handing out these stars to every single player after the game...basically gave every player a pat on the back for sportsmanship or whatever...just fosters selfishness if you ask me...}

but, overal, GREAT first basketball game for him!

LOL...we just started doing basketball this year, although I haven't posted pictures of the girls doing it, but the star thing is a little weird, but I know they are trying to also motivate them for the next time...again could be done in a different way...we have loved it and I have to admit I am one of those crazy parents cheering on the teams...LOUDLY...LOL..but I like they don't put up with the ugliness that you see in regular sports. One of the players from one team told another player she hated her after the other girl kept taking the ball from her...it's how you play the game...but she didn't take it too well, and they had to address it and pray about it. Not sure if they would have handled it that way in a secular league but when you have two not so athletic girls playing in a league that is encourage instead of just about competing and doing a team sport, something new it makes for a good impression. He looks so cute I hope he is enjoying it.

i have to comment as a blurker... my husband has coached upward basketball for four years, my our middle daughter has cheered for two years and i am her coach this year. if done correctly the stars and the devotions weekly build upon one another and they are being taught Godly character. with 13 girls on my team it is easy to say, *X* gets the blue star for effort, *X* gets the gold star for spirit... i try to give examples of spirit, doing cheers well and working as a team while handing out the stars. the white star is for christlikeness ~ it sometimes makes me tear up when i can actually give one with a great line on why the girl is receiving it. upward is a great program and i am glad your family is being exposed to it!

i will go back to lurking now...
