we've started a "new thing" from the time joshua gets on the bus until bailey and sawyer go down for their naps...a new hour...and new rhythm...and i'm loving it!
because the weather has been gorgeous...we eat lunch with joshua before he leaves so that it's out of the way...and then we go for a walk once he gets on the bus.
a walk with no set time or distance or pace.
no stroller.
i wear flip flops...not tennis shoes :-)
bailey picks the route.
sometimes she pulls...sometimes she rides...
we stop and look at things.
we smile and laugh.
i was with a friend this morning.
it was such a sweet time.
this stage of my life doesn't allow for much time with friend...and that's fine...but when i get it, it's ohsosweet...especially when they really care and listen and understand and encourage and challenge me. thanks, kelly!
anyways, one of the many things we talked about was how we wished we had known how simple the days were when we just had our first 2 kids and we had no "outside" schedules (school, ballet, sports, etc.)
as i was walking with bailey and sawyer later in the morning, it reminded me of the days with rebekah and joshua at this age...we could go to playgrounds for hours...or to library story time...much simpler days...and a lot less wrinkles on that face of mine! :-)
i'm sure there are things about this stage that i will look back on and wish i had known...i just don't know them yet!
ok...back to our new hour...
then...after we get home from our walk, and put sawyer to bed, we do school together.
it's her new "special time."
i've been awful about doing school with bailey.
i was so good and creative with rebekah...pretty good with joshua...and it just hasn't happened with bailey (school with her is more like as we are driving down the road, i ask her the letters on a sign or something :-))
OR some days i would try and do something with her while rebekah was doing her homework and joshua was reading and sawyer was still taking his nap...but there's just too much going on.
so...school. for REAL.
just me and bailey.
we are using the same book i used with joshua.
we've only done 3 lessons.
it's NOT going to be as *easy* as it was with joshua...she needs a little more excitement in her learning...but it's gone better than i was expecting, so that's good!

So tell me...does that book work?
the book TOTALLY works! for REAL!
ok. one more question! :)
What is the age level? Too young for Sully at 4?
I'm doing this book with my Richard also. He loves it!
I LOVE this idea----awesome!!!
Oh and that book looks great! :)
love this post! love your new hour. :) and love that you are having some special time with Bailey too. i've often thought about how low key things used to be and i totally had no idea how low key they were at the time! :) it's kind of like going to the store with one kid and realizing how easy it is...and how i used to think that was hard. :) you are such a good mom Courtney. making the most of your WHOLE day. you challenge me in a good way. thanks!
We have that book and Eli got so bored with it. I have heard from EVERYONE that it works, but Eli would dread doing it...
So we do "ClickNkids" you can google it. It is a computer based program and looks to me exactly like this book but it is interactive and the kids get to watch this dog ask them questions. For Eli it is great, he LOVES it and it is so easy for him. He asks every day to do it. We are on lesson 30 now and he is reading and sounding out words all day long.
Just thought I woudl share :)
can't wait to get this book! Thanks for the recommendation!
