justice

why will we have a knockdown dragout over the injustice of your brother getting 1 more jelly bean than you when we are 4 years old?

yet, as adults, we sit back and think we can't make a difference in the many injustices of the world?

or we might do a little bit...but we don't want to exert too much energy!

"And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
Micah 6:8

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices-mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law- justice, mercy and faithfulness."
Matthew 23:23 (that was Jesus talking there...)

do you notice what was listed FIRST in these 2 passages??
Justice.

{these pictures have nothing to do with this post...but posts are always better with pictures, right!?}

It is God's call to

"seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow."
Isaiah 1:17

fight for those around you that need your help.
keep your eyes open and you'll see them.
and He will give you the strength and grace and resources to do it.

He WILL.

"we don't believe something by merely saying we believe it, or even when we believe that we believe it. We believe something when we act as if it were true."
Dallas Willard

so true...thanks for the reminder. it is so easy to live in our own world and close our eyes to the world around us.

And I'm SOOO sorry about Sawyer---praying he feels much better soon---and it is SOOO hard when its "just a virus" and there's nothing you can do...grrrr...

and the line as God reflects on the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, to the effect of , "because you gluttonous beings cared more for yourselves than the poor and the hungry..." kinda crazy, cause that's the American-normal explanation of the destruction there. Jim just preached on that recently.

And which minor prophet is it that calls out the ladies of the town with the voice of God calling, "You fat cows of Bashan!" He's referring to the the women who hoard for themselves rather than the poor and oppressed of the lands- not offering their resources or the their voices.

The overarching themes of the scriptures are clear- why do we not hear them? I feel like I'm re-learning texts all the time that have been taught to me to as one thing or another, yet those old meanings were more self-centered/serving/enabling of cushy behavior. Drives me crazy to have learned so falsely for so many years.

Oh, and we're now working with Jackson because his deep yearnings for justice are plaguing his sister's attempts at answering questions. It appears his heart for justice has created an allegiance to "the truth", rather than people first. For example, that color might not be "blue", but "purple", but maybe we don't have to slaughter your sister for calling it "blue." Ya know, maybe we can give her a little room to learn her colors and we can save that commitment to justice for the, you know, injustices of the world.

keep forgetting to type that up :)
