thought i'd share some POSITIVE stuff! so often we share the shocking "negative" statistics...here are some positive ones!
*Since 2002, the number of Africans with access to lifesaving HIV/AIDS medication has increased from 50,000 (1 percent of those in need) to 2.1 million (31 percent of those in need).
*In Eastern and Southern Africa, 43 percent of HIV-positive pregnant women received medication to prevent transmitting the HIV virus to their babies in 2007, up from only 11 percent in 2004.
*Millions of people are surviving malaria thanks to the distribution of simple bed nets and treatments, in large part supported by the United States. In Rwanda and Ethiopia, for one example, deaths from malaria have been cut in half in two years.
*Every $1 spent on water and sanitation generates $8 as a result of saved time, increased productivity and reduced healthy care costs.
