2009: be intentional

that's my theme for this year.
it's how i live my life.
i try to be intentional about all i do.

i spent some time yesterday reflecting.
thanking God for this past year.
for the good and the bad.
for how He always is there, with me, growing me, challenging me.

and then i spent some time looking forward to this next year.
i don't really do resolutions so much.
(i mean, of course i also want to eat better, lose some weight, go to bed earlier, etc.)
but i do think there's something to say for thinking about your life and making goals.

i thought through each person in my family.
and just made one goal with each of them.
it will take being intentional to truly do these things.
they won't just happen.

in 2009, i desire to:
~pray more with Pat
~read more with Rebekah
~talk more with Joshua
~play more with Bailey
~enjoy more with Sawyer

did you make any goals?

something tells me you will accomplish those fine, fine goals. after 10 years and seeing the impressive trajetory you've been on, i'm willing to wager you pull off some rather impressive work in 2009. fine, fine goals.:)

I love that. Easy to be able to tell if you are doing it or not!

I love you goals as well. Have been thinking about them all day as I tried to do the same things you are doing. Fits perfectly here too (plus 1 : )

Courtney, I think this will be a theme for me this year as well. I read this the other day and it made me think...then, today we had our Lambs Bible study that I'm involved in at my church and we are studying the book of John. We were in Chapter 7 and what was the theme???? being purposeful, intentional about everything I do. not letting life happen to me, but being intentional about all I do. I'm not as good at that as you seem to be and I've been deeply challenged by this today. In John 7, Jesus is so intentional and purposed about ALL He is doing and He understands that His life and His time is not His own, it belongs to His father...our Heavenly Father. If I live like my life is my own then I don't have to be intentional, anything goes...but, my life isn't my own and to live for Him and make a difference in this world, my family, my friends, etc...I MUST be intentional about all I do, the littlest of things. If I'm asking Him, each day, "Lord, is this the day, is this what you would have me be doing today?" or "Should I be doing this right now, should I be doing something else?" I will live more purposeful and intentional for Him. I love how you applied this to your family. To be the wife and mother I'm called to be I need to be more intentional with my time, efforts, and love towards my family!!! how convicting! Eph. 5:15 Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, (16) making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. I know I haven't been living this way...reflecting and careful to make wise decisions and making the most of each opportunity...especially in the mundane of raising my kids.

I just felt led to share my heart with you today and what I had learned. I felt like your post was just what God used to get my heart pondering "being intentional" and then this mornings study and lecture confirmed what I believe He wants to show me and teach me this year. Thank you for your openness Courtney. I only know you through this blog but I have enjoyed getting to know you this way and appreciate your willingness to be real.
