life hurts

"In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering."
Hebrews 2:10

life hurts.
it's true, isn't it?

and we try to do everything to make it go away...to "fix" it...or to escape it. we try to "be better" or we eat too much. or not enough. or drink too much. or control every little thing. we put up walls so that "they" can't hurt us anymore. we turn bitter or callous. we try to pretend like it doesn't really bother us.

but we all know none of that helps.

the pain is still there. it's not going anywhere. because the world we live in is broken. it crashes against our lives relentlessly.

i'm a bag of peaches today, huh?? ;-)

the GOOD NEWS is that the AUTHOR of our salvation was made perfect through suffering. our God KNOWS what it's like to suffer. He GETS what we're feeling and going through.

for the last year, i've made the conscious choice to run INTO pain (don't worry...i'm not running into a fire or anything...you know what i mean, right?) instead of away from it. and i've seen Jesus more clearly, i'm less swayed by things that don't matter, my faith is stronger, and i have a joy that nothing can take away. but you know what? the pain has not gone away. i still struggle with the SAME SINS. the lies that have always whispered in my heart are still there. the people i love are still going through things i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

we are never going to be without pain. but we can learn to live with it well. and that is only through the One that chose to walk into pain Himself.

life hurts. but He is there to walk with us, to hold us, to carry us. YOU are not alone in your pain.

do you believe that today?

Great post Courtney. Boom, you nailed it. I so love that God has filled you up to have JOY in the midst ~ that is what He desires. Thank you for the reminder. Thanks for shining Jesus! Yes, life is full of struggles ~ but He does shine brighter in that place. Prayers abundant as we walk this thing called life on earth....together.

Isn't it funny how physical and emotional pain are so similar? Both, if ignored, lead to even greater problems, but when you acknowledge pain, it gives you power over it. It sounds like you've discovered an inner strength that so few of us ever do, the ability to look at pain head on and get through it.
