we have finished our first week of homeschooling. i never thought i'd EVER write that sentence.
but it's true and we did it and IT WAS GOOD.
so so good.
{sawyer LOVES trains. and if i want to find him, this is where he is. always. just watching the train go around and around. so you can enjoy some pictures of that amidst my random thoughts from the week.}
we DID do school every day {except today. today is grocery shopping day and he is doing some independent work, but we didn't do a lesson.}
we got through 10 days worth of lessons in 4 days. not bad for a "laidback, let's see how it goes" week! :-)
but that's not the important part. the important part is the peace that's in our home. the calmness that i can see in everyone's eyes. it is confirmation that this is so so right for us right now. i'm so very thankful.
and the walls have some holes in them between lincoln and i. we are both still very wary. but there are genuine smiles and laughter and honesty (!!) and grace given gladly.
we went around the table on wednesday night and said our favorite part from the day. we used to do that EVERY night. but don't anymore. lincoln's was "doing school with mom." oh my heart. whether he was being manipulative or not, my heart loved hearing it!
some have asked how lincoln feels about all of this. when we first told him, he was MUCH more upset than we expected. cried for a long time. and when this week started, he was pretty subdued and mellow. but as the week has gone on, he's come more alive and animated. i asked him a couple days ago how he feels about it and he said he misses his friends. but he also said he likes doing school with me. we told him MANY times and i pray he knows that we are doing this to HELP him.
this is not easy. my mind and heart are so consumed with balancing everything. but it's good. and right. and i hope and pray that it's a week we look back on as the beginning of something amazing in our son and in our family.

Thank you JESUS! And now you have this in writing to look back on :)
Hi Courtney - I am a friend of Holly's and have loved following your story and seeing you live out your faith - very inspiring to me! This (http://simplehomeschool.net/all-kids-have-special-needs/) was in my inbox today and I thought of you when I read it so thought I would pass it on. Be encouraged! You are doing GREAT work!
