the best weekend

we seriously had the best weekend.

it started early - on friday afternoon, we spent 3 hours at the pool and i even let the kids get ice cream from the ice cream man! (only time that will happen this summer. it's a "once a summer" thing. but it was perfect timing!)

home for pizza and movie night. we watched a nancy drew movie that they had seen, but i hadn't. it was really cute!

this was my dinner. salad with leftover steak, avocado and roasted jicama. i'm really starting to love all the yummy paleo food i'm figuring out!
saturday morning i got up at an awful hour (5 am) to run 10 miles.
then we split up...the 3 little boys and i went to 2 adoption yard sales and pat and the 3 older ones went to their swim meet.

SO fun to go to the yard sales and see all God is doing in those family's lives!
then we joined them at the swim meet...me and my buds :-)
after an afternoon of yard work and chores, pat's parents picked up lincoln, sawyer and levi and took them away for 24 hours to spend some special time with them.

which meant pat and i got 24 hours with these 3!! we had SO much fun!!

first, we played some tennis.  pat played in high school, so he very patiently instructed us all. we had a blast and made sure to keep it fun. we hope to have many more tennis matches this summer.
we got cleaned up, and gave them a choice for the evening. pat and i were both surprised with their choice! out to dinner (japanese steakhouse) and rent a movie to bring home.
i love that they chose the fun dinner experience. and we watched "return to nim's island" - which was great. 2 good movies in a row - so rare! we ALL went to bed at 10:30 pm. it's pretty fun just having older kids around!
sunday morning we made a big breakfast, then headed out to a Nationals baseball game. it was "bryce harper bobblehead day" - which was a HUGE deal to some of us ;-) we were there 3 hours before the game started. intense, i know. don't worry...we got the bobbleheads! ha!

watching batting practice...

i was impressed that i was able to find lunch for myself that didn't cheat on paleo!
i LOVE living life with this man!

came home and were all reunited - the little boys had a GREAT time with grandmommy and granddad.

and we even got to end our weekend by having the snyders over for dinner! 2 years ago exactly, we were in ethiopia and they were about to come join us and bring their ezekiel home!

hey Courtney! I'm excited to hear more about y'alls food journey. We're thinking of trying paleo to determine any food sensitivities. Wondering if you can share any breakfast ideas (i eat yogurt, granola, oatmeal, smoothies alot to AVOID cereal, plus lots of eggs, but just wondering if you're still eating yogurt? Or have other suggestions. Thanks from the Bassetts :)
