"they" say they come in 3's...

so far, in the last month, i've dealt with LICE for the first time in my mothering career...and today scheduled the first surgery for one of my children. i know, it's so amazing that i haven't dealt with EITHER of these things in 11 years! but, i'm good with stopping at 2...we don't need to have a 3rd thing, ok??

so. remember how rebekah had mono late last winter?? ever since then, she gets these sore throats that come on SUPER fast and once they settle into her throat, it's HORRIBLE. her tonsils and glands are SO swollen that she can't swallow and refuses to talk. it's SO SO painful for her and i HATE it. it's never strep throat, but they always give her an antibiotic because it's clearly full of puss and infected and AWFUL looking.

well, saturday afternoon, it started happening. yesterday she was miserable. by this morning, i was slightly scared. it was the worst so far. i took her into our pediatrician. she prescribed an antibiotic and said she would like her to be seen by an ENT. by the time we left, she said THEY were going to make the appt so that she could be seen this week, instead of a few weeks from now (which is when the appt would be if I had called.) they called me an hour later and had made an appt for 2 pm TODAY. right. school gets out at 2:30 pm. but i knew she needed to be seen, so i made it work. i picked lincoln up early from school, and joshua and bailey just came home on their own (i ended up getting back home before they did! the appt was fast!)

the ENT reacted like all doctors do when they see her throat (um. wow. that's BAD!) and she is scheduled to have her tonsils and adenoids out on january 14. i, of course, don't love that one of my children has to have surgery. BUT...i've watched her go through this over and over this year and i'm at the point that i want them to do ANYTHING to make it not keep happening.

so so thankful for doctors and medicine and healthcare and the PARTICULAR doctors that i saw today (they were ALL so wonderful!) i'm thankful that everything went so smoothly and quickly today. it's so rare that that's the case!!

what a day...i can't believe it's still monday!!

I will start praying for her NOW! Cailey (my 10 yr old) has hers out in the summer and the recovery is tough. LOTS of slushies and popsicles! Praying for your girl!

I had mono my freshman year of college. Before that time I had never had strep throat. After having mono I had strep all the time!! So at the age of 20 I had my tonsils out. It was terrible. I think I would rather go through childbirth. They say it's much worse when you're older and that kids bounce back much quicker, so I think it's great that she's getting this done now. Absolutely no fun to have your kid put under but it will make her much healthier in the long run. I haven't had strep since my tonsils came out. Bless her heart, I'm so sorry she's had to feel so miserable lately. I hope those antibiotics kick in fast!! I'll be praying for her.

Oh, so glad you were able to find some wonderful doctors for her! Jayla having her tonsils out was one of the best, most health restoring things that ever happened to her! It's a rough couple days, but SO WORTH IT!

It is scary to have your child in surgery...but after Lauren had her tonsils and adenoids out and I saw how much it helped her I knew it was worth it!!

Will for sure be praying with her having surgery. And so sorry to read about the lice...poor Bailey and poor you. I have a friend here whose daughter got them this fall and I ended up having to check her head for her because her husband was away when she found them on her girl. No fun, but I'm glad it did not cause any bedbug relapses in you dear friend!!
