back up a bit. 3 weeks ago she had a HORRIBLE sore throat. for 2 days.
i finally took her in. it was strep throat. she went on an antibiotic.
8 days later she still could hardly swallow. something wasn't right. i took her back in.
she was diagnosed with mono?!? crazy, huh??
by the time she got diagnosed, she was through the worst of it and we just keep moving on. the dr said no need to miss school or sports unless rebekah wasn't feeling well. she felt fine (except for her throat still hurting) and i just never even thought to post about it.
shows how crazy our life is, huh??
ANYways, yesterday she had a follow up dr appt for her mono so i took the opportunity and kept her out the rest of the day!
{GREAT thanks to pat's mom for watching the little boys!}
we did a little shopping...the 5th grade has a BIG end of the year party so i got her a new shirt for that.
then we went out to lunch.
she wanted chick fil a. i wanted chipotle AND to eat outside.
we fit it all in! :-)
{ps. does chipotle have crack in it? because i want it ALL.THE.TIME}
we came home and tried to take some "jumping" pictures with the timer on my camera.
we never got one...robyn - how do you do it?!?
we still had fun :-)
{dress is from target. on sale at the end of last summer. today was the first time i wore it!}
i lost sleep the night before worrying about this day. when i did a day with bailey a little while ago, a certain somebody tried (and nearly succeeded in) sabotaging it. some of that day was my own reaction. but some of it was out of my control and needed to be dealt with. i just wanted it to be a special day for her and not another day "centered on him."
i finally slept. He gave me His peace that even if that did happen, it could be special. HE could do that.
and it truly was a special time, focused on her.
i tried not to force things too much. not to ask too many questions. just to be. to be silent and let her questions and observations guide our time.
we cut up lots and lots of strawberries (and found a heart leaf!)
she loves to cook. i think cooking/baking will be a fun thing to do together this summer.
{to make jam, i just use a box of sure-jell pectin and follow the recipe in the box! it's REALLY easy!}
after we made a LOT of strawberry jam, we sat on the porch and talked. i was able to tell her how proud i am of her and why. i was able to let her know how special she has been to me since the day she was born. her smile reached her heart. i need to remember that. it takes so few words, yet they traveled so far.
and then our time was over. we picked up the other 2 from school and the craziness of the afternoon was upon us. arguing. complaining. i hit my own wall after such a full day (although my heart was FULL and He carried me through, i still had some "moments." ugh)
bailey and i wrote a story together. she wrote a line, then i wrote a line. she took quite a spill on the playground during recess and came home with bandaids all over her body!
she's still about to kill me. i do NOT know what else to do with this one...
and the 1st grade (bailey's grade) had an exhibition of some of the activities later that evening. it was cute.
the best i can remember, i threw them all in bed with, "i don't want to hear a WORD, ok?!?"
and finished up a few things and headed to bed myself.
by the time pat got home (meeting after work) i was still awake, but barely. i gave him a "bullet point list" of the day (he wishes i'd do that every night!) and we both went to bed. tired. beyond tired. yet so thankful for our lives. for all He's given us...
{i have some days lined up soon to spend with lincoln and sawyer. joshua informed me yesterday he does NOT want to miss school like bailey and rebekah did. that kid. he would have "too much work to make up." i did have a fun day with him a couple months ago when he was sick...maybe i'll have to do another one in the summer with him.}

a)I LOVE that you're doing this with your kids. What a special time it must have been.
b) Chipotle MUST have crack in it...Berkley and I have to limit ourselves to once a week or we'd be there for lunch every day & we'd be broke.
c)Where did you get your dress? love it!
Ooooh I want to make strawberry jam! Link?
i love this.
what a special day!! such good memories. (and I love the dress)
love both of your smiles! we made jam for teacher gifts. ("thank you BERRY much") here are a few other recipes for jam that are good:
Any berry jelly:
Ingredients
• 4 cups hulled and crushed raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, or strawberries (use a potato masher), or a mixture of any of these (i have used frozen berries. so much cheaper and i buy the big bag from costco)
• 1 1/2 cups sugar
• 1 pouch powdered or liquid pectin (any kind should work fine for this -- just ignore the directions that come with it)
XInstructions
1. Put the berries in a large, heavy pot. In a bowl, mix the sugar and powdered pectin, then stir thoroughly into the berries. If you're using liquid pectin, add it and the sugar directly to the pot of berries.
2. Bring the berry mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly.
3. Let the berries cook at a full, rolling boil for 1 minute, then ladle the jelly into very clean jars. Leave an inch of headroom for the jelly's expansion in the freezer, cap, cool to room temperature, then store in the refrigerator for immediate use or freeze it for later.
and another one:
Roasted Rhubarb Jam
1 pound (16 ounces) rhubarb, tough ends removed & cut into large chunks
1/2 cup (100 grams) sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, optional
Preheat oven to 400ºF. Toss rhubarb with sugar and cinnamon, if using, in a 9-inch by 13-inch nonstick baking dish. Roast for 20 minutes until thick and bubbly. Stir to mix well, then let cool completely. Transfer to tightly sealed jar and store in refrigerator for up to two weeks. May also be processed in a hot water bath using sterilized glass jars.
well a), I'm psycho. we know that, right? okay then. b) my timer is 12 seconds, and it's not simple to know when that's up. at all. my best advice is to make your jump really big so you look like you're more "still jumping" incase it missed you- throw your arms up. pulls your legs up. be adorable in a dress. you know. =)

Sora "punishes" me if there is ANYTHING different about our day than normal - especially if I'm gone for some reason. Sometimes she does it for two days after depending on how much of a change it was from normal. It's SOOO hard for me to have patience with her. :(
Oh, and I had to laugh when I saw your dress because I have the same one...that I bought here in Thailand! Since Target/Gap/OldNavy, etc. are usually made in Cambodia or Thailand, we have a few "export" stores. I think we often get the clothes that were sent back from the US that weren't sold or have just a little something wrong with them. Makes sense if your dress was on sale. :) These export stores are a nice perk of living here - I paid about $5 or $6 (maybe you paid even less!)
