something we don't do well {day with joshua}

just like every person has strengths and weaknesses, i think every family has strengths and weaknesses.

as we've grown as a family, we've been told from day 1 that we "have" to make dates important. dates between pat and i {i.e. "date nights"} and dates with our kids - one on one. that all sounds good. in theory. but we've just never been good at any of it. it's one of our weaknesses. pat and i LOVE to be together. but we don't love to be OUT {we'd truthfully rather be sitting on our couch together} and we HATE to spend money. so, we DO go out sometimes (and enjoy it!) but it's not every month and it's definitely not every week {like "they" say to do.} and with our kids? we love to be together as a family. if we spend all our time somehow figuring out how to have pat be with just joshua or me to be with just bailey, we'd never be together - all of us! but, we DO recognize the value of one on one time with our children and we DO try to capture it when we can!

anyways, all that to say, my needing the time yesterday with bailey has spurred me on to try to have a little bit of time with each kid before summer starts. BUT, when i was thinking about joshua, i couldn't figure it out! he HATES to be out of school (he begged me to take him back to school after the dentist was done with him...and leave bailey there to be getting novacaine in her mouth! i did.) so i didn't think a day like i did with bailey would go over quite as well. THEN, he just happened to be sick on sunday evening (but FINE by monday morning!) so he couldn't go to school! i didn't really get to do "fun" food things for him (still being careful with his stomach) but we DID read together and watch a movie together and just enjoyed BEING together! God really met me in that...and i'm thankful that i had the time with joshua!
