how to make a football field birthday cake

joshua wanted a "football field" cake.

i saw some ideas when i looked for a few minutes one day. but, truthfully, i put it all together in my head in the middle of the night. i had no idea if it was going to work.

i used a roasting pan to make the cake. 2 cake mixes for the bottom layer. 2 cake mixes for the top layer.
the bottom layer was chocolate...
covered the bottom layer with green icing (football field)

the top layer was white cake.
i forgot to take step by step pictures of the next part. but, i cut the middle out of the white layer when it was still separate. then i laid it on top of the chocolate layer. i put a piece of wax paper on the green icing and we put the white icing and sprinkles (spectators!) on the edges. then i put chocolate icing around the outside edges and made a football field in the middle.
i wish i had taken a picture of joshua's face when he saw it for the first time. he LOVED it!!

Tell Pat I asked if the football guys on the cake are from his electric football game - you guys aren't that much younger then us that he didn't have one as a kid. :)

Great job on the cake Courtney
