don't worry.
but, i don't want to forget these early weeks.
we spent the first 3 weeks just establishing some routines.
{and having some fun!}
when i think back on the first couple weeks, just getting them to sit for 5 minutes and do ANYthing was quite the challenge!
but the 3rd week things took a good turn. they seemed to settle into the routine.
they told daddy about school when he got home at night - and school had happened 12 hours earlier!
we started doing school upstairs. at the little table in the kitchen.
that's where we did school for the first 2 weeks.
there were too many distractions. and i was sick of finding places for the "school stuff" we had.
so, we moved to the basement and that is working WAY better! in many ways!
{paint in a ziploc bag and use a q-tip to write}
i spend a few minutes a week looking through ideas.
i don't make a "lesson plan" exactly.
but, i was a 2nd grade teacher and it comes pretty naturally to me.
i wing it most of the time...but i do a good job winging it.
we have learned "l", blue, circle and square for the entire 4 weeks!
way too long...but a lot of the first couple weeks was establishing routines.
they have now mastered {writing} an "l" and recognizing an "l" {not working on sounds yet}
they were very proud to put a sticker on the "l" on their alphabet!
we will start "s" next week {just chose the first letter of each of their names to be the first 2 letters we learn.}
we've practiced cutting. wow. we have a lot of work ahead of us with that! :-)
levi plays great while we do school. sometimes comes over for a little hug/attention, and then goes off to find another ball. HUGE progress there!!!
sawyer is definitely "ahead" of lincoln in what he knows - understandably.
BUT, lincoln is much more excited to learn than sawyer. which is precious!
duct tape {blue!} on the floor...
i spent $45 on supplies. and i don't think i'll be spending much more than that. i'm good for months.
all our "stuff"...
pretty "primitive" school room...tucked next to my craft desk...but it works for us!
i have a basket on the table in the kitchen with "l" books in it for this past week {i need to switch it out for "s" books for next week}. they are great at picking out "l's" in books! {The Grouchy Ladybug is the book "they" say to use for "l" but we don't own that book. i don't like grouchy people...or bugs! :-)}
this was my big splurge for our "school supplies" - took 1/3 of that $45 - but after their excitement and smiles this morning - i think it was worth it!
a tub of transportation pieces. we counted and sorted and matched. they LOVED it!
we are reading 1 story out of our Jesus Storybook Bible each morning.
and learning a verse.
they both memorized Ephesians 6:1. preciousness.
now we are learning John 3:16...
and then, when we are done, they can't WAIT to get back to their trains!
so...4 weeks in and we've mastered "l" - but also SO much more!

wow! you are ALL doing GREAT!!
I love how Lincoln cheers at the end of the scripture! Precious boys!
this is awesome. please keep sharing what you are doing! love the cars on the "l's" :)
#1 - that is NOT a primitive school space.
most people who do any school at home use the kitchen table/floor.
what you have is adorable!
#2 - so cute!
don't you love doing that with them!?
(well, like deep down anyway ;-)
oh MAN this is so awesome court!!! I'm definitely stealing those ideas for Kallen :) LOVE them!!!!!! oh, and YOU!!!! :)
Thanks for all the great ideas on handwriting! LOL! Can you do all my homeschool research for me? I am going to use some of these with Clay and Garrett to just make it more fun! And I loved the boys saying the Bible verse and cheering for each other at the end. Awesome.
