the lightbulb

one of my favorite FAVORITE things is to see the "lightbulb" go off when a child learns to read.
i LOVED it when i was teaching.
and to see it in my own kids is SO amazing!

bailey has been in the stage for a while of asking how to spell words and writing notes and sentences on anything and everything.

she became a "word wall wizard" at school last week (it's a BIG deal...something she's been working on since the beginning of the year!)

and, today, she read me a whole BOOK! i helped with some of the words. but, it was a REAL book...like 50 pages. not a super simple book. one that REALLY counts!
the kids made a fort yesterday, so that's where the reading took place.
i LOVED watching her face. the concentration. and excitement. and pride in knowing so many of the words!
it took 45 minutes to finish. we were interrupted a couple times by sawyer needing to go to the bathroom (which was actually kind of nice. i'd like to pretend i have that kind of patience, but i don't.)
it was good for my foot, too! to be still for that long!

SO proud of you, sweet girl!
i can't WAIT for you to read me another book!!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh how wonderful! That is a HUGE step ~ tell Bailey how proud we are of her! I know that was a "memorable" hour for you Courtney. Grandma is so happy over here. :)

I could NOT agree with you more - that is definitely my favorite moment to see for my kids. When they get it that they CAN read a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g.

Street signs, food labels, store signs, the DVR list -LOL, that seems to be Jonathan's favortie accomplishment - that he can get his OWN show on without waiting for me.
