there are some moments where my job is like heaven

our bathroom is like grand central station in the morning.
everyone in there doing their hair and getting dressed...
when i get home from running, i make lunches, then i walk up the stairs and go room to room turning off fans and on lights to stir them. that's all it takes.

i head to my room, make my bed and change out of my sweaty clothes.
i get sawyer and bring him to my room to get dressed.
i sit on the floor right inside the door to my room and in front of my bathroom. i can see down the dark hallway.

this morning, i look up from where i was sitting there on the floor, and joshua was walking towards me...rubbing his eyes to try to wake up.
i put out my arm and he fell into me.
my heart jumped.
he is a HARD kid to get a hug from.
he was too big to hold on the floor. his legs were too long...they had nowhere to go.
but he stayed there. and i held him tightly.
i whispered a couple things.
and then he was up and gone.
i've thought about that hug all day.

there are some moments where my job is like heaven.
sawyer got a piggyback ride on the way home from the bus stop.
i kept tickling him while we were walking.
he kept saying, "'gain! 'gain!" and i kept tickling him again and again.
i LOVE those moments.
where i can actually DO what their little hearts desire.

but there are some moments where my job is like heaven.
then we had a fun time reading books together before his nap.
again and again.
"more" and "more".
and then....THEN! as i was walking out of his room after i had prayed for him and said, "rest good!" and "i love you!" and covered him with his blankets and blew him 64 kisses...he said, "lub you, mom." if i had been preoccupied in my mind or been in a hurry i would have missed it. he said it pretty quietly...but oh so sweetly.

AGAIN! my heart jumped!
it was the first time he said "i love you!" without me having said it RIGHT before.

there are some moments where my job is like heaven.
i can NOT get enough kisses from this little boy :-)
even though they are a bit slobbery...

but i might have regretted this particular one when i got him up from his nap a few hours later and he had a fever...not sure what's wrong with him yet.
{i love that i can tell just by looking at his face within seconds of walking into his room to get him that he had a fever...}

there are some moments where my job is like heaven.
and i'm just thankful for it all today.
