"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all."
1 John 1:5
at 5 pm we started the "bath routine" - rebekah and joshua take showers on their own, and i give bailey and sawyer a bath together.
part of the "bath routine" is picking up the house.
once everyone was clean and the house was picked up, i had all the lights turned off in the house except our christmas tree and our advent candles.
i sat by the tree with joshua's bible.
they all met me there.
i didn't have to ask them to.
i love how they just come...like magnets.
i admit, some moments i don't love that.
but, i know one day they won't do that.
last night, i loved how they just came.
they all sat down.
some laying on their bellies.
bailey's hand on my leg.
sawyer on my lap.
i asked joshua to read 1 John 1:5.
then i passed the Bible to rebekah and asked her to read it.
then i read it.
repetition is good.
we talked about light.
and God.
He made the light.
He is the light of the world.
do we like it when there is no light?
how can we be "light?"
will there be darkness in heaven?
{conclusion: we won't have to SLEEP in heaven! not sure about that one...naps seem like heaven to me sometimes :-)}
we prayed.
then we drove around and looked at christmas lights.
and got mcdonalds to bring home for dinner
{since pat's been getting home late, we haven't really been doing the candle...i can only do so much...and doing "the candle" AND making dinner wasn't an option...not in my current "state"}
as we walked in the door, i told them not to turn on ANY lights.
we ate our mcdonald's by candlelight
{i added clementines to the menu! :-)}
when they had to go to the bathroom, they had to carry a candle.
when we brushed teeth, we used a candle.
it was really amazing.
they were so much calmer than normal.
we ALL seemed so much more peaceful.
when pat got home, there were still no lights on and i was laying on the couch...still...quiet...peaceful...
normally there would have been music or the tv on and i probably would have been on my computer.
it was nice.
we might need to "live by candlelight" more often...

As Ellery would say, "I like it." :)
I love how when there was light, there was peace. When there is a ton of 'light pollution' it's hard to be affected by True Light.
ohhhh....love it! a lot.
Courtney,
You have the best ideas for making things fun and different! What a nice change of pace. I'm going to try to too! Although, we may have to use our Little House on the Prairie lantern for the occasion. :)
I hope there are naps in heaven!!
Peaceful ~ wonderful for all. I LOVE it.
very cool.
