christmas eve

this was plan "b" for the day on christmas eve.
but it ended up being so perfect.
we walked around a town center and watched the ice skaters.

then we went and ate at a restaurant.
where they serve you.
my kids aren't too familiar with that.
they kinda know McDonald's and ChickFilA...but not restaurants!
bailey kept saying, "why is it taking awhile?"

but the great part {for me} was sitting there and looking at their faces.
talking to them.
no pressure.
nothing left to be "done"...just enjoying Christmas together.

it was wonderful.

then we went to Pat's aunt's house for dinner.
it was so special.
really the only time of the year that we see that side of the family.
{my extended family on Thanksgiving...his extended family on Christmas Eve}

yes, i took pictures.

but i lost them all.

people - REFORMAT your memory cards every so often.

i lost the rest of Christmas eve and the beginning of Christmas morning.
i have never reformatted my memory card
{it's in the menu of your camera. takes 2 seconds.}
all of a sudden, it said, "card can't be read" or something ominous like that.

i've moved on.
it stinks.
but i have the memories in my mind...and my kids do, too.

and i'll be reformatting my memory card periodically now.

What?! What the heck is reformatting your memory card?? Now I'm nervous! So glad you're having a great holiday!!

oh no! YESSSSS> in fact, you should reformat EVERY TIME you upload- EVERY TIME. cards are reliable IF and only IF you do this. I, too, learned this the hard way.

And yes, it takes 2 seconds. When you upload, back up your pics (2 copies). Then, simply go to your menu, tools, scroll down til you see Format, click over, and erase and reformat the whole thing. Just make it a habit. Every photog i know does this religiously---that, and reset your DSLR settings EVERY night or morning so you don't get barnes and nobles lighting compensation on your professional outdoor shoot the next day...uh-huh.

i lost our pics with jim's mom last year- Very sad. I was sick for weeks.

OTHER THING_ never, and i mean NEVER use an SD card in two different cameras without reformatting. So, don't grab from your DSLR and toss in your point and shoot or visa versa. Kills cards/ corrupts data.

you CAN pay a lot of money to recover that data, but it doesn't always work. but you can see.

so sorry, court. that's awful. so sorry.

Wow! Well, thanks for letting us all know...I was oblivious! Why does that always have to happen on such insignificant days as Christmas or Christmas Eve??? Right.
