as we were going to bed last night, pat said, "i like how we do Christmas...it takes all day long."
i would agree.
i love how we do it.
{might not be that interesting for you...but i hope my kids appreciate me recording this one day}
when the kids get up {they can't get up til 7 am}
they come get us {IN BED!}, we go down and turn the lights on and then call them down.
we have all their stockings set out on the couch...nothing wrapped...just OUT.
{there would be pictures...but...gone...}
they get to look through their stockings...things like gatorade, packs of gum, markers, a ream of computer paper {they each get a ream...it lasted until october this past year! those 3 reams!}, a CD, sometimes pj's but this year they didn't need them...
after stockings, we cook a big breakfast.
monkey bread and biscuits with eggs, cheese, sausage and bacon.
mmmmm!
it takes awhile to cook it all which is nice!
the monkey bread always takes longer to cook that i think it will...so we played some more...
oh! rebekah got this bag of fabric...she's already planning projects :-)
and can you see the colored pencil case she's working on?? etsy.
each kid got one in their stocking.
LOVE them.
after breakfast we do "the candle".
this was tricky.
sawyer is normally asleep when we do our candle at night.
burning candles and a 17 month old...tricky...
but we managed.
{isn't tinkerbell the cutest??}
then the gifts.
they each got 3.
in years' past it's been: 1 book, 1 clothes and 1 toy.
but we literally have no shelf space left in our house for books.
so this year it was: 1 clothes, 1 music thing {radio or ipod} and 1 toy
joshua's "clothes" - pat was in charge of that one!
rebekah's smile when she opened her ipod was priceless.
she wanted it so badly.
and she wants it to run with...love that! :-)
helping sawyer open his last gift.
pat and i were good to each other too...he got a blu-ray player {i have no idea...like a dvd player but better?? and now we need blu-ray discs to go in the blu-ray player}...and i got a laptop!!! i was beyond shocked...i am so spoiled.
by the time we were done with gifts is was basically 1 pm.
everyone headed to their rooms to sleep/rest/play quietly.
ok. off to make dinner.
pat's family is coming over for the evening.
normally we grill steaks.
but we're changing things this year and making egg rolls, guacamole and ham/cheese biscuits {with that poppy seed topping on them...you know??}
i love that we have traditions...but that we are both ok changing things up, too!

Another thing we have in common... I'm checking your blog from my laptop right now! So excited to use it for my 2009 blog book. I can actually sit beside Corey in the evenings when I work on it! Glad you all had a fun day! :)

oooo bluray. two things that are great about it (i'm sure you:
1) you can still play dvds on them (and geoff swears it makes dvds look better)
2) if you guys do netflix, having a bluray means you can watch a BUNCH of movies and TV shows on your bluray THROUGH the internet for free. Through some sort of science I don't understand. They have tons. It's basically all we watch now.
i love the all day christmas too. and you and i must have been on the same wave length with the non-traditional food this year. for 2 VERY traditional girls, we both sort of went the opposite way this year - and loved it! how about that! ;)
