**WOW!!! you guys are AMAZING! thanks for all the comments!!! i especially love the "you look great, just eat ice cream" suggestions :-) i'll let you know what works for me!
i've officially given up ice cream.
i LOVE ice cream.
i've eaten it almost every night since sawyer was born (bad!)
it was my "treat" at the end of my long, draining days.
but, i gave up the candy and the 5 pounds are still there.
now i need to give up the ice cream.
but there are nights where i'm truly hungry a couple hours after dinner.
and nights where dinner just wasn't enough for pat.
any healthy "after dinner" snacks.
maybe that are sweet?
and actually have some sort of value to them??
i'm going grocery shopping this afternoon and would love to get something new!
{otherwise i'm not sure how long this strike from ice cream will last...i feel like i get the shakes from withdrawal!}

this might not be 'enough' but I love me a frozen banana with chocolate syrup when I need an ice cream fix and I'm off ice cream.
my girlfriend actually dips them in chocolate and then freezes them - not as healthy though because you can't use the syrup, you have to actually make a gnache type of sauce....
oh. and I love homemade granola bars - you can put whatever you're craving in them.
I need to do this too. But I might not have the will power to go off it EVERY night!
So funny that you posted this today. I just decided YESTERDAY that I had to kick my ice cream habit too...I have like 8 pounds to go. UGH! But I knew I couldn't go completely cold turkey...so I'm just allowing ice cream on the "odd" numbered days...We'll see how long I last! :)
Oh, have you tried frozen red grapes? DELISH!!
Oh, the age old question....a snack that is healthy, but is as delicious as an unhealthy snack. Sometimes I have a bowl of cereal (something sort of sweet), hot chocolate (for a chocolate fix) or some frozen yogurt.
have you tried some of the frozen yogurt treats that they have at the grocery store? some of them aren't too bad. i usually keep some around for my late night fix. (but they are expensive and i hate that...so the ever present question - eat healthy and spend more or eat unhealthier and save money???)or maybe some lowfat vanilla yogurt with a few chocolate chips in it??? jsut some thoughts. let me know what you decide! i need some suggestions too!!!!
skinny cow ice cream bars...fudge...katy told me about them and the are REALLY good.
and this probably not healthy but my favorite snack at night lately is trail mix. :)
Different varieties of apples are very sweet (not red delish or gala).
Thanks Beth for the reminder that I have two skinny cow ice cream sandwiches in the freezer... Lunch maybe? (miss you)
yes...skinny cows are THE BEST
yogurt and LF granola with berries is good late at night :)
Also that choc/banana shake is an awesome sub for ice cream...kinda a pain with the blender, but i've just been rinsing my lately (not a FULL washing---shhhhh!!!!)
xoxoxoxo!!
it is funny you just posted this, because I just made us all smoothies for dessert, the boys LOVED them so much and asked for more. I have to freeze fruits in season or I don't get them throughout the year...and blueberries are in now, so I have a bunch frozen and some strawberries from the spring...so I used those, a fresh banana, some plain yogurt, some orange juice, some flax seed...gives a fun texture, and coconut oil for some healthy stuff.... and it is delicious... they love it. and it is filling!
Honestly, I think you look fabulous and should not worry about those 5lbs. I don't see it! You can't give up everything! Let yourself indulge in some ice cream! You deserve it!
seriously? giving UP ice cream? say it isn't so? okay, so i love skinny cows, as my dear friends have all already posted. but also i love to take plain vanilla yogurt, put frozen fruit on top that's beens lightly defrosted(one way i use up the 20 lbs of strawberries that i picked back in the spring), and top with Bear Naked granola. SO good!
you guys are the best! thanks!
so, basically, there IS no great snack that is healthy and tastes good.
{ps. i really don't like bananas or yogurt...which eliminates lots of the GREAT suggestions! i can only eat key lime yogurt. and that is my breakfast. hmmmm...maybe i should switch it to my dessert! that's an idea!}
ok i'm coming late to the party here, but you can actually make a smoothie without yogurt, since you hate it.
-fruit of choice
-a scoop of vanilla or chocolate flavored protein powder (i'm sure pat is familiar with those!)
- scoop of almond butter (better for you than peanut butter, but more expensive)
- ice
- a little water
We do bananas with choc powder & almond butter for breakfast every day and then figured out it makes a great sweet taste after dinner because its basically a choc/banana milkshake. i'm not sure how well almond butter would work with fruits besides bananas tho. you could maybe do without if it doesn't work.
this is not even close to ice cream, but does include a choc. taste. The Reese Puff cereal is good for a evening snack. I eat without milk and the pieces are tiny so you feel like you are eating more.
i agree you already look great! maybe every other night would be easier to stick with.
Kiwi. Peel 'em, slice 'em... just enough sweetness. (My kids love 'em, too!)
I agree with Veronica. You look gorgeous. Life is short. Eat ice cream and be happy.
apple halfed with pb and raisins on top. yum!
i have a friend who ate the choc. pudding pops. they are fat-free. i've never tried them.
good luck!
Well, I guess I'm late with this since you already have 19 comments...and since you already went to the grocery store ;-) I don't think eating late is good - even if it is healthy - but we break that rule almost every night! :-) Sometimes a cup of hot tea will curb my cravings. We like banana's and cool whip too. However, since you don't like banana's, we also do strawberries or grapes with the cool whip. Cool whip doesn't have any fat, but I guess it does have sugar if you're staying away from that...
i'm just now seeing this, too. 20 comments later :)
have you considered that "extra" 5 pounds might be muscle due to the fact that you run 350 miles each day and lug around a giantly cute baby? just saying...
ice cream without corn syrup is healthier, AND makes you feel fuller versus still wanting more. I always eat less of Breyer's than Edy's. The corn syrup makes you salivate for more. I like vanilla with choc jimmies and corn-syrup free whipped cream when it's been a nightmare day. (Or, Whole Foods has all natural ice cream for $4.99/half gallon, and it's a REAL half gallon instead of those tiny wannabees.)
Or hot tea.
Or La Croix on a super-lucky budget week.
Or Trader Joe's Vanilla Joe-Joes...crunchy!
Or Trader Joe's choc bar with whipped cream.
Or just ice cream with homemade hot fudge sauce and even some peanut butter---you know, for protein.
I'm not helping, am I? Luckily you're on eastern time and already asleep :)
Okay, and well, you'll think I'm a freak but I currently love fresh green beans off the side of my house and cherry tomatoes...they are sweeter than any cookie in my house. Wild, but true :) Sad when winter comes...oh wait. Hot chocolate :)

i double posted that because my first one wasn't long enough :)
eesh.
I am totally in the "what 5 lbs?" group on this one. Seriously, Court, eat the ice cream. It burns off quickly in those 4 miles every morning. And since that extra 5 lbs doesn't really exist...
But maybe it would be good to do the 100 calorie thing for the evening? They have good healthly choice ice cream bars. The chocolate ones are good and though I haven't tried them, there are now some cookies and cream ones on the market. You still get ice cream, just a limited 100 calorie serving.
