about 8 pm on tues nite {after i dropped my car off at the shop for new tires and ran 4 miles home} i said to pat, "hey! how long does it take to set the tent up?" {remember...i am NOT a camping girl. pat takes the kids. i stay home and paint or clean or read or run :-)}
back to our conversation..."does it take like 10 minutes or 30 minutes?" he said it takes about 10 minutes.
he's starting to get that look on his face. the one that says, "what are you up to? and what am i getting myself into? i thought i was about to sit down for the first time all evening..."
i said, "ok. this is what we're going to do. move all the furniture out of the living room and set the tent up!"
he said, without hesitating, "ok!" and went downstairs to get the tent.
literally 10 minutes later it looked like this and we were sitting on the couch talking.
isn't he the best??
it's WAY stinking HOT outside.
and i didn't have a car.
so this was a fun way to do "something different".
pictionary {the game of choice this week...}
they want to sleep in it one night...we'll see about that...
there's been LOTS of arguing and just not being pleasant to be around these days.
so this week we are not watching any TV...or any computer...and i'm TRYING to not "entertain" them myself all the time.
it's been rough.
it's like ripping a bandaid off...they don't know what to do with themselves.
{and it makes my day harder...}
but it's good for them.
and now they are finally getting into it.
this morning they made a whole restaurant for me to come to...money, menu {even dessert!}...it was great!
i was talking to a friend last night that said they have "no screen time" every August!
GREAT idea!
hmm...
maybe we'll at least keep this going for the next couple weeks...

Now that is fun idea!!!! Way to go!
i love the tent in the living room - it just changes the scenario a little bit doesn't it!
Looks like so much fun. We actually put the girls princess tent up on Tuesday Night, I came home from a girls night out and Michael had it all set up for the girls. Only thing was the only one who wants to use it, is Jaden. LOL. He loves climbing in it, the girls lasted about 5 minutes Michael said, although I think if it were as big as yours they might want to spend more time in there. Glad they had fun. We have cut back on tv time as well and the arguing has gotten ugly, I hope it doesn't last I'm quite done with the arguing. Sawyer is a CUTIE PIE!
Does this mean you can cross "Camping" off of your summer list? I say YES!
that's what i'm hoping, megan!
the longer the tv is off, the less my kids think of it as an option and the more creative they become. and the tent in the living room is a great idea.
so fun. looked kie you had fun....
