re-connecting

this was a year ago!

i have a lot going on this week {nothing new there}
but i have 1 goal.
to re-connect with my kids.

maybe i'm weird...but when we go away with other people...i end up coming home and looking at my kids faces and thinking, "hey! i miss you! i feel like i haven't seen you in days!"

when we're gone for a week we {pat and i} do a pretty good job of trying to have some family time at some point each day...to remind them of who they are and what they should and shouldn't be doing. but when we're just gone for a weekend...there just isn't time for it.

don't get me wrong.
the little breaks we get on those trips are AWESOME!
and the FUN the kids have is priceless!

and part of it is that some of our kids are getting older so they are more independent (yay!) and will just go play in the waves for hours and don't need me right there with them.
{and i still have younger ones that DO need me at all moments...so i'm not just sitting and eating bon-bons or something}

so we just got back from the lake.
we are leaving on saturday for our annual beach trip with our college friends {hip hip hooray!!!}
and school starts right after we get back!
{and joshua is starting kindergarten! i'm in denial...but it's happening...}

so, i'm trying to re-connect this week.
soak them in.
look them in their eyes.
stop when they are telling me something and really listen.
play games.
play restaurant.
just lay on the floor and be there.

{and "there" this week is this spot. you know, right at the bottom of the basement steps. very convenient :-)}

So appreciate where you are ~ there is nothing like "really" connecting with our kids. Good job for making that a priority. Enjoy every single minute of it! (love Bailey's dress!). Hugs to all of you.

yeah - i am totally with you. my sisters always joke that when we're all together, the kids are always together and we (the grownups) never see the kids. s ort of nice, but then i totally miss them. and as josiah and jacob get older and are more on their "own", i find myself missing them too. so i'm all about the reconnecting this week!! enjoy them!
