wow. she's my daughter!
rebekah got her retainer today.
she has to wear it for 6ish months.
to correct the overbite (? i think) on her top teeth.
and it has a thing built in so she can't suck her thumb anymore.
i never had a retainer/braces.
this is ALL new (and LOTS of money! yikes!)
anyways, we're at the dentist (wild bailey, screaming sawyer and all...)
she's getting the "instructions" - how to take it out, put it in, clean it, when to wear it, etc.
she's smiling.
nodding.
"yes, sir!" "uh, huh!" "ok!"
we get in the car and she totally changes.
almost in tears.
"mom, it's hard. i can't get it out! it hurts!"
SO my daughter.
i HATE to show other's my pain (remember how i sat in a waiting room for 2 hours with contractions 5 minutes apart because they didn't have any rooms open when i was in labor with rebekah and i was still smiling through the *excruciating* pain and a lady finally said, "you have GOT to stop smiling or they are never going to give you a room"? wait, you don't remember that because it was before blogging...but that's how i am. smile whether i feel like it or not. til i get behind closed doors. then you better watch out! :-))
it kind of made me sad for her.
i really wish i could show my true emotions better {i do a better job in writing - hence, the blog - but i have a very hard time face to face}.
it was a hard evening.
she couldn't really eat.
it's hurting her a lot.
i didn't really think through that.
now i'm going to figure out what to give her tomorrow for breakfast and lunch.
i think it will just be a few days and she'll be fine with eating, the pain will be gone, etc.
good thing i've purchased tylenol by the case lately ;-)

so brave!
Hey Courtney! Give her a message from Mrs. Guthrie. Who had all the braces and crazy stuff. Tell her that it will get better! In a few days her mouth will be more used to it and it won't be so sore. Then it will just be sore sometimes. I KNOW she can do this...she is a tough girl. Some good verses about doing what is right even when things are tough may help her perspective. It is really painful and sore at the start, or each time they adjust it.
smmooooothhhhiessssssss!!!
and milkshakes!
:)
and me, too. much better with the writing. i'll show my thrill, but not my pain. and not even on purpose. huh.
cute girl. she's a great kid.
oh, I am so sorry.. I had all that it does hurt!!!!!
Tell her to hang in there, it will get better, I had to wear braces and a retainer forever, it hurts in the beginning but it will get better. Lots of soft fun stuff.
wish we could have a smoothie together :)
In a few days that retainer will be looser and easier to get in and out! Hang in there!
it will all be worth it in the end...i guess this is one of those hard things about growing up. brings back not so fond memories for me! :(
