it's the day our Savior rose from the dead!
we celebrated.
we did some of the "cultural" celebrations...
went to church in cute spring dresses...
dyed eggs...
ate yummy food...
had an easter egg hunt...
{can you find bailey in the tree??}
but this day wasn't ABOUT eggs and candy and yummy food.
it was about celebrating our risen Lord.
we find it challenging these days...Easter and Christmas...to show our kids the true importance.
our culture all around us is screaming all things "fun" and "materialistic" but the day Jesus came into the world in human form...and the day He left it...are not just "fun" {when we did St Patrick's day silliness, THAT was just "fun" - without trying to compete with something REAL at the same time}
this was the culmination of a month of teaching our kids what Easter truly is.
we use the resurrection eggs to guide us but we don't start 12 days ahead. (there are 12 of them)
we start about a month ahead.
and talk about it every night.
kids NEED repetition...we stay on each "egg" - symbol of Easter - for a few days, until they really grasp it.
then we move on.
in the sermon this morning {we go to the really early service that has no childcare so we ALL get to sit in church together!} there was mention of many of the symbols and people we've been talking about through the resurrection eggs.
when we got home and were making/eating breakfast, it was so cool to hear the kids talking about it..."he said Joseph of Arimethea!" "he talked about the spear bringing out blood AND water."
it's in there...in their little heads...and we pray in their hearts.
we had a great day being TOGETHER.
making the meals together.
eating together.
playing freeze tag and hide and seek outside together.
and just dwelling on what Jesus did for us today.
all of us...you too!
He is risen!

I love hearing what you guys do to teach these things to your kids, because we are totally going to copy you and do them too! What a fun day, you guys do such a good job and making it fun and making it clear what it is really about.
You do a GREAT job at keeping the truth the truth, with some cultural fun in the midst. I love what you said....kids need repetition. Yes they do and you all do it well. You did a FANTASTIC job with Easter....church, food, and pics and fun. Even when you probably don't feel totally great yet. Love you and all you stand for Courtney.
Yes! Easter always makes me feel funny-the cultural aspects are so exciting for the kids. We too try to focus on the truth of the celebration. I just wrote about this same idea, however you put it much more nicely Courtney : )
