shoes

Darfur is a region in Sudan.
Sudan is a country in Africa.

400,000 people have died in a conflict in this region over the last 6 years.
400,000.
my brain can't really comprehend that number.
but it's horrific.

a class at our high school has decided to make a statement.
just to help us comprehend that number.
they are collecting 400,000 pairs of shoes to be laid out on the National Mall (in DC...not the shopping mall!)
as a statement.
after they have used them for that, they will be given to homeless shelters across the country.

do you have any shoes you aren't wearing?
maybe that you were already planning to give to charity??
you can bring them to me and i'll get them to the right place.
or you can take them to Briar Woods High School.
or Eagle Ridge Middle School.
i even saw a box collecting them at the Ashburn Library this morning!!
i'm not sure what the cut off date is, but the actual event is happening on April 26.

here's their website:
Shoes on the Mall

That's very cool - it will be amazing to see them all laid out. By the way, I almost couldn't watch 24 this season because of that first episode with the kids in Africa. WAY too much to handle. It's hard to see what is reality over there, isn't it?

I have plenty of shoes to donate, let's get a date to meet so I can get them to you. Mine, hubby's and kids.
