will be forever mine

i'm loving this cd lately. for many reasons. each day i have a different song on repeat.
it's michael w smith's "a new hallelujah".

today it is "amazing grace".
this verse in particular.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

as he's singing that verse, he stays on the phrase,
"will be forever mine" and sings it about 5 times.
over and over and over...
and it sunk in (which was his intent, i guess)
that word.
FOREVER.

because i am His FOREVER i walk through this life very differently.
no matter what happens, i am His forever.
it doesn't mean everything will be great.
but it does mean that i have hope when things aren't great.
FOREVER MINE.

i think this hit me today because of a conversation we had at the dinner table last night.
we are memorizing John 3:16 with the kids.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
(we're getting back to the basics. we realized that we've "moved on" to deeper things as Rebekah and Joshua have gotten older. but Bailey is going to grow up not even knowing who Adam and Eve are! so, we're trying to go back to the basics for her sake...)
anyways, we were repeating it over and over.
and joshua asked, "what does perish mean?"
so we had the conversation about death and eternal life.
saw the wheels turning. things clicking.
