i've been over days like this being "amazing" for a few years. we've had enough "special" days ruined by real life (throwing up, oversleeping, cranky kids, you get the picture) - that i've lowered my expectations quite a bit. it's just another day. and they are still kids. and i'm still their mom.
anyways, it's been special so far - maybe not by anyone else's standards - but certainly by mine:
-pat intended to go to Panera and get bagels. we overslept (til 7:40!) and he didn't have time. we were out the door by 8 am and WENT to Panera instead and just all got a bagel. then went straight to church. no dishes. it was even better than the original plan. and i LOVE last minute things that actually work out!
-joshua's teacher told us "he is a very sweet boy" - yes, he's our sweet one.
-rebekah gave me a book she made in school. it is the cutest thing ever and obviously took a LOT of time.
-pat is painting a room i've wanted painted for months (he's only known about it for a couple weeks though)
mostly i just love these 4 people in this house so very much and am thankful for a day to just BE together. we're not running around and, with the exception of pat painting during naptime, we're not doing ANY chores.

I'm with you - it's not about it being the "Hallmark" holiday - but rather just a day to be thankful for the blessing of being a mom - even with all the hardwork that it entails. And the little things - like not having breakfast dishes to clean up and not doing any chores - can make a day GREAT! Happy Mother's day - you're an AMAZING mom!
