easter at the Cassada's

if you're expecting the "traditional" Easter activities, this isn't the place to look.

the day started out heading to church in pants, sweaters, coats and hats - it was 32 degrees! (no cute spring dresses...)

after church we made these Easter cookies that each step of the process has a "meaning" (example, we pounded the pecans to symbolize how they beat Jesus before he was crucified.)

we had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and grapes for lunch.

we read this great book with the kids... we played a bunch of games of hide n seek and a new "football" game they made up...

we all took naps.
for dinner, we made our own pizzas. and i made a special lemon meringue ice cream pie for dessert.

no Easter egg hunt. no Easter baskets. not because we "are against" those things. but because we, as parents, desperately want our children to understand the TRUE meaning of Easter. in the few hours we have of this day, we didn't want to fill half of it up confusing them with what our "culture" says the day is for. and, they aren't deprived...both sets of grandparents gave them Easter baskets in the last week and they had 2 Easter egg hunts this past week.

the kids are in bed. we're all relaxed, rested, and ready (as ready as i'm going to be) for the week to start and spring break to be over.

Happy Easter from the Cassada's!
